A Power of Attorney is a document in which a person appoints another person to act on his or her behalf.
An "ordinary" Power of Attorney is to be used while the appointing person (called the grantor, doner, or principal) is still mentally sound and mentally capable of carrying out these things himself or herself, but needs someone to act on his or her behalf for convenience.
Such an "ordinary" Power of Attorney cannot be used to act on behalf of a person who is no longer mentally capable (incapacitated). For that you would need an "Enduring" Power of Attorney.
It is important to understand the THREE documents that are often confused. An ordinary Power of Attorney, an Enduring Power of Attorney, and a Medical Directive or Living Will are all used for different purposes.
You will find a number of Power of Attorney Forms at the "Legal Documents Center" and The Enduring Power of Attorney is dealt with separately and on its own page along with other "Estate Documents" .
If you continue with this page, you will see a link to the Enduring Power of Attorney page as well.
